A collection of surface pattern designs created for personal textile projects, exploring repeat pattern construction, material application and print production across a range of fabrics.
The Challenge
To develop original pattern designs that translate effectively across different materials and uses, from performance wear to homeware and fashion.
Approach
Hand-drew initial motifs and developed them into repeat patterns, using both traditional techniques and digital tools
Refined and vectorised designs in Adobe Illustrator, creating seamless pattern repeats
Explored scale, colour and composition to ensure patterns worked across different fabric types and applications
Produced printed textiles using Contrado, selecting materials suited to each design outcome

Performance Wear Collaboration
Collaborated with local heptathlete Becky Owen and textiles student Grace Thomas to develop a custom fabric design for sportswear. Designed a repeat pattern for Lycra, balancing visual impact with functionality, which was then used within a fashion project.

Silk Kimono Design
Designed a bespoke silk pattern for a personal garment, exploring a more expressive and individual visual style. The pattern was printed onto silk satin and is currently being developed into a finished piece.

Created a series of patterns for homeware applications, including “Exploded Teapot” for cotton bunting and “Citrus” for towelling tea towels, demonstrating versatility across different materials and uses.
